Back in the early 1970's Laurence's dad, a baker, said "son, what do you want to do with your life?" after a typical smart answer his dad said - "every man needs a trade behind him, which one will you choose?". Laurence chose cooking. in 1972, whilst employed by the top-rated Hotel Australia on Colins Street in Melbourne, Laurence attended William Angliss College of Food Studies, and completed his apprenticeship.
After finishing his apprenticeship, he cooked in Melbourne and Ballarat prior to moving North and cooking on Great Keppel Island (for a week or two). Then upon moving to Brisbane found that some people in the world only worked 9-5 and Mon-Fri. And that was the end of his cooking career.
That is until many years later his incredibly beautiful wife said - "get out in that kitchen and rattle those pots and pans."
Whilst a highly successful non-profit CEO for now the best part of 40 years, his passion for cooking as back and he is enjoying fusing KC BBQ with Aussie flavors and sharing with friends - new and old.
With good wine knowledge and a supportive family around him - Scrubby Creek Station is now open for your dining pleasure on Saturdays at 7pm.
This is not a restaurant - this is Tee and Laurence's home, which is why they sit and eat dinner with you, along with their dogs Penfold and Yalumba.
The maximum seating is 8, indoor or out at Brumbies back yard BBQ - so reservations are a must.
OH - and Tee has mastered the art of making iconic Aussie deserts, to enjoy in the Down Under room.
As Laurence says, "the food is good - the evenings are great!" Join us.
